Construction with care for the environment: a busy quarter for Newburn’s Temporary Electrics Division
The last quarter has seen Newburn being awarded significant contracts in the construction sector, with a major project for one of the UK’s largest universities. As part of the company’s ethos, and as with all such projects, Newburn have safety and environmental concerns at the forefront.

Newburn’s Temporary Electrical division has now completed works on the revitalised Doncaster Wool Market, a key part of the borough’s Urban Centre Masterplan. And, on a more local level, the company were pleased to support a local charity concert, raising money for the mental health charity, Andy’s Man Club.

Newburn’s commitment to health & safety and excellence across all company policies is recognised with the award of Gold accreditation by Constructionline, the leading procurement and supply chain register for UK construction.
Working with over 10,000 buyers from more than 4,000 public and private sector organisations, Constructionline undertakes rigorous audits of its members, ensuring that buyers can confidently engage with accredited suppliers who meet a range of government-approved standards developed by the British Standards Institute. While Newburn Power have previously been accredited with Constructionline, the company has now achieved the new Gold level, reflecting their commitment to health and safety, quality and environmental standards.

Reset accreditation, gained this month, will provide all the assurances clients need that Newburn staff are appropriately skilled and qualified and that the company meets all pre-qualification criteria for any job.
Power in an emergency for Britain’s largest Port Group
Meeting the regular energy demands at ports is a huge challenge but emergency power requirements add a new layer of logistics – especially when the cargo is frozen food.
Part of Associated British Ports, Immingham is Britain’s largest port, handling 55 million tonnes of cargo each year. Last month, when extreme weather including gale force winds forced a Scandinavian cargo ship to divert from its Lowestoft destination, the port authority redirected the ship to the closest port, Immingham.

Assessment under the scheme is undertaken in accordance with the Safety Schemes in Procurement Forum (SSIP) core criteria, an industry-recognised standard demonstrating compliance with UK health and safety standards, recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and supported by rigorous quality assurance processes. CQMS holds mutual recognition with other members of the Forum and Newburn’s latest accreditation is based upon the company’s existing accreditation with CHAS, one of the founders of third party accreditation in health and safety compliance.

Nominated by the SafeHire Assessors, Newburn Power are finalists for SafeHire Company of the Year, to be awarded at the Hire Awards of Excellence, Grosvenor House, London, later this month.
Developed with input from HSE, BSi and CHAS, SafeHire is a Private Standard and the annual audit, part of the certification process, helps companies demonstrate their commitment to providing a safe environment for employees and customers, alike. Established in 1974 and with over 900 members, Hire Association Europe (HAE) is the industry-leading trade association for the plant and tool hire sector. In addition to an invitation to join boards for a range of hire-related sub-sectors, HAE members regularly take part in technical panels to review and develop new practices that impact on the sector, helping to keep them at the forefront of the plant and equipment industry.
